Description
All pieces are made by hand in my Easthampton, Massachusetts studio. Each piece begins as a chunk of white stoneware clay. First, the clay is thrown by hand on the potter’s wheel, forming the shape. For mugs and other items with handles, a coil of clay is joined to the side, and methodically pulled to form a smooth, comfortable handle. Following a bisque firing in the kiln, the piece is hand-decorated using a combination of hand-drawn underglaze transfer and slip-painting. Then the piece is hand-dipped in a clear glaze and fired once more in the kiln to make the finished product.
