Description
This handmade, wheelthrown ceramic lunch plate is intended for everyday, practical use. This small plate was hand thrown on a potter’s wheel in my Easthampton, Massachusetts studio. The combination of the warm white stoneware with the vibrant surface design brings a simple, modern, and fun look that stands out in any home.
Process: Each piece begins as white stoneware clay. First, the clay is thrown by hand on the potter’s wheel, forming the shape. Following a bisque firing in the kiln, the piece is hand-decorated using a combination of hand-drawn underglaze transfer and slip-painting. Then the piece is hand-dipped in a clear glaze and fired once more in the kiln to make the finished product.
Note: Minor imperfections, variations, and quirks are part of the unique, one-of-a-kind nature of using handmade items.
